Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598), editor, geographer and cartographer, born in Antwerp, Flanders (now Belgium), commonly regarded as the author of the first modern atlas, the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum whose first edition dates of May 20, 1570 and was published in his hometown. The publication was a such a success that by the year of his death, Ortelius had published more than 40 editions in 7 different languages, gradually increasing the number of maps of each from the 53 initial to 166. Doctored copy, trimmed, with some restorations and partly washed.
