A THOMAS RUSSELL & SON Pocket Watch, (Watchmakers to the Queen), gold case (18 kt.) n.º 79604, London city mark (1888), TT makers mark, monogramed decoration, decorated with blue and white enamels, mechanical movement n.º 95201, chronometer, English, 19th C., marked Note: the father Thomas Russell (1780-1830), founder of a watchmaking manufacture in Lancashire, was born in Lancaster and Alfred Holgate Russell (1840-1893). Around 1840 the family moved to Halifax, developing a business at Lord Street then at 20th or 22nd Slater Street and latter at 32nd. In 1848 Robert achieves the Royal Warrant by the hands of Queen Victoria, due to his fast progress in the watchmaking industry. In the following year he passes the business to his sons Thomas Robert and Alfred Holgate, starting to be named Thomas Russell & Son, becoming also importers of Swiss watches and musical boxes. In 1877 moved to Liverpool, 12th Church Street, with offices at Piccadilly and Toronto.
