The present service was produced before this appointment, when he managed his company, Longhe Hang, trading with Europeans such as the Dutch, Danes, Swedes, Spaniards, and British. His business continued after the appointment, reaching its peak around 1786-1789. However, the increase in revenue did not translate into increased profits; heavy debts led him to bankruptcy in 1792. In 1793 he was arrested and his assets were confiscated. In 1795, his death was reported while he was in custody at the home of a mandarin in Canton.
