CONESTAGGIO, Girolamo Franchi di.- HISTOIRE | DE LA | REÜNION | DU ROYAUME DE PORTVGAL A LA COURONNE | DE CASTILLE. | Traduit de l’Italien de Ierosme Conestage | Gentilhomme Genois.- A Paris: Chez Clavde Barbin, M. DC. LXXX [1680].- 2 vols.; 17 cm.- E. French translation (6th edition?) of the work of the famous Genoese historian Conestaggio, mistakenly attributed by some to D. João da Silva, count of Portalegre. Initially considered pro-Spanish, this did not prevent it from being banned in the court of Philip I (of Portugal). The work, whose original edition was published in Genoa in 1585, was quickly translated into German, French, Latin, Spanish and English, with several editions until the mid-17th century, has now been rehabilitated and is considered an objective and impartial account of the events that took place. led to the loss of independence from Portugal in 1580 (see article published by Prof. Giacinto Manuppela, in the Boletim Internacional de Bibliografia Luso-Brasileira, Lisbon, F.C.G., 1960, vol. I, nº 3, p. 352). The collation of the two volumes is as follows: I - [2 br. 6], 533, [3 br.] p.; II - [4], 399, [1 br.] p. Unidentified French(?) heraldic ex-libris: I Routy B S (in volume I). Contemporary bindings, full sheepskin, a little worn. Palau, 313381
