Ancient ornamental architecture, de Charles Tatham, 1799 TATHAM, Charles Heathcote.- Etchings, representing the best examples of ancient ornamental architecture; drawn from the originals in Rome, and other parts of Italy, during the years 1794, 1795, and 1796.- London: printed for the author, 1799.- 12 p.: 102 coloured engravings; 44 cm.- E. Charles Heathcote Tatham (1772-1842), a native English architect from Westminster (London), was in Italy from 1794 to 1797 where he socialised with Canova, Angelica Kauffman, William Hamilton and Carlisle. Complete set, fully engraved by the author, containing the original nucleus with 72 etchings, dated 1798 and 1799, published monthly in groups of six, to which the remaining 30, engraved and dated 1800, were added. Plates with slight foxing, watercoloured by hand, sometimes with strong colour. The six preliminary leaves, which include the title page, a preface, and a list of subscribers, have a stain on the upper margin, affecting the first line of the title. Specimen a little cropped, coated with 20th-century binding (labeled by Frederico d'Almeida), fully red morocco, with double ornamental border on the covers, roll on the square, spine profusely decorated with gold and top edge gilt.
