Henry Lloyd (ca. 1718-1783), officer, strategist and Welsh military historian, fought in the service of several armies - France, Austria, Charles Stuart, Prussia and Russia, where he was a favorite of Empress Catherine II; his writings influenced great statesmen, notably George Washington, having been studied by General George S. Patton. Lloyd exchanged letters with the Count of Schaumburg-Lippe whose invitation to come to Portugal did not materialize. Original edition of the first history of the “Seven Years' War” (1756-1763), illustrated with five copperplate prints and six foldout maps. Very clean example, with only slight tide stains on the plates, all very well folded. An entire sheepskin binding of the time, slightly worn, with carmine edge.
