Ferdinand Denis (1798-1890), French traveler, historian and librarian, lived in Brazil between 1816 and 1819; Returned to Paris, finished his career as director of the Bibliothèque de Sainte Geneviève (1865-1885), one of the four most important in Paris; Denis left extensive work published in the Fields of history, bibliography, fiction and travel, namely a history of Brazil and descriptions of several countries, including Portugal. Original edition, illustrated with 18 copperplate prints (12 aquatints and six etchings), printed separately, six of which are double-page. The colation of the two tomes is as follows: I-[4], 211, [1] p.: [9] engravings; II-[4], 199, [1] p.: [9] engravings. Slightly cropped specimen, very clean, preserving all the plates in its original state (not coloured). Binding of the time with leather spines. Sabin (Books relating to America), 19545.
