First French translation of the work of Giannone (1676-1748), Italian jurisconsult and historian, born in Ischitella (Foggia), from which the temporary excommunication of the author and his inclusion in the Index would result. The original edition was published in Naples in 1723. The collation of the four volumes is as follows: volume I: [2], XXVIII, 656 p .: 1 portrait; volume II: [2], VIII, 755 p .; volume III: [2], VIII, 746 p .; volume IV: [2], VIII, 684 p. The first volume is illustrated with a portrait of the author "ad vivum", engraved by Jeremias Jacolb Sedelmayr (1701-1761). Set with good margins, occasional slight moisture spots with slightly fatigued entire calf bindings of the time. Ex-libris by Aníbal Fernandes Thomaz (in the four volumes) and storage tag on the back cover with the inscription D. Rodrigo de Souza Coutº. (only in volume I). Brunet, II, col. 1584.
