Gabriel Daniel (1649-1728), a French Jesuit and historian, a native of Rouen, with a vast active bibliography of religious and philosophical themes (anti-Jansenism), achieved his greatest literary success in the present Histoire de la Milice Françoise, represented here in his Second edition (the first dates from 1721), as well as in his Histoire de France (1713), which edition of 1755-60 would be enlarged to 17 volumes. The collation of each of the volumes is as follows: I - [32], 448 p .: 48 grav .; II - [16], 552 p .: 22 grav. It includes, therefore, a total of 70 intaglio engravings representing military, strongholds, boats, light and heavy weapons, war machines, etc. A copy with some acidity, sometimes strong, but full and solid, covered with entire calf bindings of the time, slightly fatigued.
