Francis Xavier (1506-1552), the Apostle of the Indies, a personal friend of St. Ignatius of Loyola, beatified in 1619 and canonised in 1622, he was the founder of the Society of Jesus; his body is buried in the Church of Bom Jesus in Old Goa where today he is the subject to fervent devotion. The edition includes 18 unpublished xaverian letters, five addressed to king D. João III of Portugal, three to Father Simão Rodrigues de Azevedo (founder of the Company) and the remaining to several recipients. Slightly dusty copy with slight acidity.
