A monumental work particularly appreciated for the oversized intaglio (taille-douce) engravings with the architectural survey of the Monastery of Batalha. The edition includes the following engravings: title page and dedication; 5 engravings (introduction); 20 engravings (architectural survey). A few rare copies are part of a fourth one (not mentioned in the works of reference), indicating volume IV and containing «Account of the antiquities discovered at Richester, in a letter from Charles Townley...» and illustrated with 4 more engravings (not in the present one). Copy lacking the engraved dedication leaf and with impressive acidity stains especially on the title page and on the handled engravings.
