A monumental work particularly appreciated for the oversized intaglio (taille-douce) engravings with the architectural survey of the Monastery of Batalha. The edition includes the following engravings: title page and dedication; 5 engravings (introduction); 20 engravings (architectural survey). A few rare copies are part of a fourth one (not mentioned in the works of reference), indicating volume IV and containing «Account of the antiquities discovered at Richester, in a letter from Charles Townley...» and illustrated with 4 more engravings (not in the present one). Copy lacking the engraved dedication leaf and with impressive acidity stains especially on the title page and on the handled engravings. The five engravings at the end of the introduction presente worm cuts on the top margin. Complete and clean texto lacking the list of subscribers. Recent leather half-binding. Duarte de Sousa, 510.
