Gaius Plinius Secundus (23-79), Roman historian, naturalista and scientist. The "Natural History", considered his masterpiece, consists of 37 books. A very prepared edition with extensive review, published simoultaneously in Leiden and Rotterdam. Each volume, with a different intaglio (taille-douce) engraved title page, has the following collation: tomus primus: [8], 838, [132] p.; tomos secundus: 917, [87] p.; tomus tertius: [8], 838, [134] p. Volumes I and III show on the last fly guard, a curious handwritten inscription (belongs: M[unreadable] C. Duprez) indicating that the copy was purchased in Paris on May 19th 1789. Fine bindings of late 18th century, entire calendered green Morocco, with bordures (garlands) on the plans, wheels to the boards and in the thickness of the folders; smooth spines, slightly faigued (with imperfect hoods), with neo-classic irons between raised bands.
