Allegory to the military and religious Aragonese Order of Santa Maria of Montesa and St. George of Alfama oil on canvas Spanish School 19th C. restoration unidentified signature dated 1884 on the back Dimensões (altura x comprimento x largura) - 32,5 x 24 cm Notes: Our Lady is represented in heaven, between St. Benedict and St. Bernard on a circular reserve with the crosses of these Orders and the Montesa Castle, surmounted by a closed Crown and surrounded by the collar of the order of the Golden Fleece, on the lower plan, flanking a reserve with St. George, the pictures of Pope John XXII and King James II of Aragon , founder of the order in 1317. Below at the centre, the coat of arms of a Knight of the order, on double-headed eagle and the cross of the order of Saint George of Alfama, per pale shield with helmet and mantling.
