A large four footed Salver, D. José (1750-1777) King of Portugal, silver, engraved decoration with the per pale coat of arms: I Sampaio; II Costa; Sampaio crest hemet; and Rocaille elements "Cartouches and foliage", Oporto assay mark (1758-1768), José Rodrigues Costa Negreiros makers mark (1756-1811), Portuguese, remarked with "Cabeça de Velho" Notes: there are four other identical salvers known (decoration and dimensions) one in the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga collection and other in Senhor David Amador e Pinho collection, the third integrated the exhibition "Ourivesaria Portuguesa & os seus Mestres", Oporto, 2007 and the forth was sold at Cabral Moncada Leilões in 2011, auction 125, lot 303. These exemplars are reproduced in vd.
