Giovanni Battista Birago, 17th century jurist and historian,
born in Venice, was one of the main proponents of the
Portuguese position on the controversy that followed the
restoration of independence. Front of the first leaf with
manuscript title of the time. Very clean copy with good
margins. Binding of the time, intact hard parchment.

Giovanni Battista Birago, jurista e historiador seiscentista,
natural de Veneza, foi um dos principais defensores da posição
portuguesa na polémica que se seguiu à Restauração da
Independência. Edição original impressa em Lyon, da sua
História de Portugal, inteiramente redigida em italiano,
ilustrada com um frontispício alegórico, gravado a talhe-doce
(f. 2). Frente da primeira folha com título manuscrito da época.
Duarte de Sousa (nº 93) refere apenas 17 folhas preliminares.
Exemplar muito limpo e com boas margens. Encadernação da
época, inteira de pergaminho rígido. BN (Restauração), 202.
