Nota: tratar-se-ão, muito provavelmente, de duas das aguarelas
originais da autoria de Henry l’Evêque (1769-1832) que deram origem
às gravuras constantes da obra “Campaign of the British Army in
Portugal, under the command of General the Earl of Wellington, K. B.
commander in chief, dedicated by permission to his Lordship”, Londres,
impresso por W. Blumer and Co, publicada por Messrs. Colnaghi and Co,
1812. Na obra, a gravura “The bridge of saltador, (...)”, apresenta
a dedicatória “To Major General Henry Fredk Campell, this plate
is inscribed by his most obidient humble servant H. L’Evêque”, tendo
gravada por Futler e publicada a 2 de Abril de 1812. Por sua vez,
a gravura “A view of the bridge of Miserere” tem a seguinte dedicatória
“To lietenant General Sir Ronland Hill, K. B. this plate is respectfully
dedicated by his most obedient humble servant, H. L’Evêque”, tendo sido
gravada por B. Conté e publicada a 10 de Janeiro de 1813. Esta gravura
tem ainda a seguinte legenda: “The french are here seen down with
fatigue, retreating towards the Spanish frontier”.
