Album containing 54 sheets in which are mounted 168 pictures
of the Royal Family, Court, Government, of Lisbon, Oporto and
several characters of the time, including some actors and
actresses of theater, members of the clergy, the military, public
figures, etc. The first photographs represent members of the
Royal Family, some of which date back to surely the late 1850
and beginning of 1860. The following are several photographs
of monuments (Lisbon, Oporto, Coimbra, Queluz and Sintra) and
members of the nobility, peers, members of Parliament, figures
of the people, Spanish citizens, etc. In addition to the
photographs, the album also includes several newspaper
clippings, two ads of bullfighting (cards), two menus of the
Grand Central Hotel, two lottery tickets (7 February 1867) and
three love notes. No document date after 1867. Four pages, near
the end, include a few autographs and a thank-you text signed
Adelard L [opez] of Ayala (Spanish playwriter and politician at
the time exiled in Lisbon): Improvisacion: A mi amigo Ferrero
(?). For this document, and the fact that most of the captions
are handwritten in Spanish, we are led to believe that the
album will have belonged to a Spanish family, residing in Lisbon
(surname Ferrero?), probably with connections to the theatre.
Entire Morocco binding of the time, with frame en relief in
wooden trunks, the romantic era manner; features in the higher
plane the inscription: PORTUGAL - ALBUM - 1867; in the centre
lower plan, the initials A. F.

Álbum contendo 54 folhas nas quais se encontram montadas
168 fotografias da Família Real, da Corte, do Governo, de Lisboa,
do Porto e de diversas personagens da época, entre
as quais alguns actores e actrizes de teatro, membros do clero,
militares, figuras públicas, etc. As primeiras fotografias
representam membros da Família Real, sendo que algumas
datam seguramente do final da década de 1850 e início da
de 1860. Seguem-se diversas fotografias de monumentos
(Lisboa, Porto, Coimbra, Queluz e Sintra) e de membros da
nobreza, pares do Reino, deputados, figuras do povo, cidadãos
espanhóis, etc. Para além das fotografias, o álbum inclui ainda
diversos recortes de jornais, dois anúncios de touradas
(pagelas), dois menus do Grand Hotel Central, dois bilhetes
de lotaria (de 7 de Fevereiro de 1867) e três bilhetes amorosos.
Nenhum documento apresenta data posterior a 1867. Quatro
páginas, próximas do final, incluem alguns autógrafos e um
texto de agradecimento assinado Adelardo L[opez] de Ayala
(dramaturgo e político espanhol ao tempo exilado em Lisboa):
Improvisacion: A mi amigo Ferrero(?). Por este documento,
e ainda pelo facto de a maioria das legendas serem manuscritas
em castelhano, somos levados a crer que o álbum terá
pertencido a uma família espanhola, residente em Lisboa
(de apelido Ferrero?), provavelmente com ligações ao teatro.
Encadernação da época, inteira de marroquim, com moldura
relevada em troncos de madeira, ao gosto da época romântica;
apresenta no plano superior a inscrição: PORTUGAL - ALBUM -
1867; no plano inferior, ao centro, as iniciais A. F.
