O mesmo tema foi tratado duas vezes
por Hendrick van Balen (o Velho)
(1575-1632) e Jan Brueghel I
(de Velours) (1568-1625).
O primeiro, datável de cerca de 1600,
é pintado sobre cobre (50,5 x 77,5 cm),
encontrando-se no Museu do Louvre,
Paris (nº de Inv. DL 1973-21).
O segundo, datável de cerca de
1606/1610, é igualmente um óleo sobre
cobre (47 x 66 cm), encontrando-se em
Angers na colecção Eveillard de Livois.
O tema foi igualmente tratado por
Dirck (Jaspersz) van Baburen (1574-1632).
A presente representação difere daquelas
pelo facto da pintura ser «ao alto»
conferindo uma diferente perspectiva
à cena, sendo, no entanto, muito
semelhante em diversos pormenores.

The same theme was treated
twice by Hendrick van Balen (the old)
(1575-1632) and Jan Brueghel I
(de Velours) (1568-1625).
The first, datable circa 1600, is painted on
copper (50,5 x 77,5 cm), is in the Louvre
Museum in Paris (Inv. nº DL 1973-21),
the second, datable circa 1606/1610,
is likewise an oil on copper (47 x 66 cm),
is in Angers in the Eveillard de Livois
collection. The theme was also treated by
Dirck (Jaspersz) van Baburen (1574-1632).
The present representation differs from
those by the fact that the painting is
“vertically painted” giving a different
perspective to the scene, being however
very similar in many details.
