Francis Nicholson (1753-1844), pintor, retratista, aguarelista inglês,
mais conhecido pelas ilustrações à obra «The beauties of England
and Wales», publicada em 18 volumes, entre 1801 e 1815.
O reverendo James Bulwer (1794-1879), coleccionador, naturalista,
viajante e desenhador inglês, esteve algum tempo em Espanha
e Portugal (1825-1826) e em particular na Madeira.
Volume constituído por uma capa de brochura litografada (bifólio)
e três litografias coloridas à mão, estampadas pelo processo
«chine-collée» (± 270 x 340 mm). As estampas, com ligeiros picos
de acidez, apresentam as seguintes legendas:
[1] - Cintra. Portugal.;
[2] - Montserrat, a former residence of Mr. Beckford’s, and the hills above
Colares. Cintra.; [3] - The palace, the convent of N. S. da Penha, and the
town, from below the Penha Verde Cintra.
Encadernação recente com
a lombada em pele, conservando as capas de brochura muito frescas.

Francis Nicholson (1753-1844), English painter, portrait painter,
watercolorist, best known for the illustrations to the book “The beauties
of England and Wales”, published in 18 volumes between 1801 and 1815.
Rev. James Bulwer (1794-1879), English collector, naturalist,
traveler and drawer, spent some time in Spain and Portugal (1825-1826)
and particularly in Madeira. The edition consists of a lithographed cover
(bifolio) and three hand-colored lithographs, printed by the chine-collée
technique (270 x 340 mm ±). Recent binding with leather spine,
keeping the original paper covers very fresh.
